Welcome to Lori Blaylock jewelry. I use copper, silver, genuine gemstones, leather, horn and bone to create alchemy and intention-based jewelry. I believe stones and other materials have powerful energy. Each stone has different properties due to it's formation or coloration or composition. The stones I use most are listed below. Remember that a stone's energetic property can be altered, enhanced or enhance other stones depending on what its combined with. Check back soon, more descriptions will be added as I can! [I am not a medical doctor or psychologist and the statements below are no substitute for medical or psychological treatment and advice. Please see a doctor.]
I believe stones have power, but like any divine object, they need interaction in order to help. My recommendation for working with stones is to simply hold them, set your intention for healing, help or collaboration and then express your problem, issue or project. Do this more than once to build the connection with the stone. I believe this bonds your energy with the energy of the earth itself.

COPPER
Copper is an amazing metal. It works in the body energetically much like it works in electricity. It grounds spiritual energy. If you're empathic, copper is great for shielding you from other's psychic energy. It can also cleanse the emotional body of old negative emotions and offer emotional protection and support in crowds--great for the introvert or empath. |
AMAZONITE
The stone of self discovery. Amazonite (pale aqua color) can soothe and balance the throat chakra which is the seat of communication. It can help you to 'speak your truth' with kindness or connect with your 'inner-truth'. This is a great stone for artists. Amazonite can assist in connection with emotions and divine water guides. Russian Amazonite is a deeper aqua & may have some white inclusions. It is a stone that can help you to release grief. This stone is said to prompt the release of emotions and start healing. Amazonite can also help creative people to follow through with commitments and complete projects. |
AMETHYST
The stone of serenity. Amethyst is a very special stone. There are a number of different types of amethysts. I typically use Brazilian or Mexican amethyst, but I also love chevron amethyst, which is sometimes called dog's tooth amethyst. Amethyst is very closely tied to the soul and spiritual awareness. It can increase intuition. Amethyst can have a positive effect on self-worth, ease sleeplessness and ease stress. On top of all that, it is simply a beautiful stone! |
ANGELITE
The stone of the Angels. Angelite is a beautiful soft light blue stone. It is also called anhydrite. Angelite is a very calming stone that can enhance creativity. It is also ideal for protection as it draws on energy from angels and spirit guides. This is a wonderful stone for forgiveness, especially if you have trouble forgiving yourself. And finally, Angelite can enhance communication with animals! This is a new stone to my work, but I'm excited about creating some pieces with it.

APATITE
The stone of detoxification. There are two types of apatite and it is a beautiful stone. In fact, I like it even more than the coveted Aquamarine. It can be a deep blue with great depth or light and translucent. Apatite is great for physical and emotional detoxes. For empaths, this stone might be a must. It can help you to distinguish between what is truly your emotion and what belongs to others, which can be difficult for empaths. If you find yourself feeling undeserving of happiness please find some apatite - it will help you let go of your pain and accept a more joyful life. |
AQUAMARINE
The stone of depth. Aquamarine is particularly healing. Its effects can be profound as it can bring balance throughout the body. The aquamarine, not surprisingly when you see it, embodies the energy of the ocean. This is a great stone for inner-mermaids! In the metaphysical realm, it promotes a stronger connection with spirit guides and angels. And finally, aquamarine has the power to heal a troubled soul. |
AURA CRYSTALS
There are a number of aura crystals available. Although the color of these crystals isn't natural, the process is much different than dyeing. Dyeing may reduce the energy of a stone or even negate it, but auras are made by bonding precious metals to a clear quartz crystal. This process is transformative in a positive way and actually enhances the properties of the stone and metal. It's more like a marriage of the properties rather than a depletion of the stone. Aqua Aura crystals are a light iridescent blue and are quite striking. They're bonded with gold. Aqua auras are powerful and help to express emotions and embrace inner truth. If you've been fearful of speaking up or out for yourself or for others or on issues which are important to you, these crystals can help. They are also ideal for empaths as they enhance this ability. Empaths shouldn't wear these crystals unless they've worked on setting effective boundaries. Rainbow Aura crystals - Deep bluish purple with rainbow iridescence. Rainbow auras are irradiated and bonded with Titanium. They can clear old karma and the effects of karma on the emotions. |
AVENTURINE
The stone of luck and prosperity. There are several types of aventurine including blue, green, red and peach. I typically use green and red. (Green is pictured to the left). Green Aventurine is a stone that can soften and open the heart. It is ideal for those with trust issues or who have been hurt and find it hard to take emotional risks. Aventurine is particularly useful for those who've been betrayed in love. As the name might suggest, it is a useful stone when you're looking for adventure, both in love and in travel. Red Aventurine is another beautiful stone and shares some of the properties of the green version. In addition to those, it encourages joy and gratitude and promotes a zest for life. This is a great stone for 'living in the moment', or living life to the fullest. |
BLOODSTONE
The stone of courage. Bloodstone comes in a few varieties and can be located all over the world including Australia, Brazil, the Czech Republic, China, Germany, India, Russia, Scotland and the United States. Typically, bloodstones are a deep green with veining or spotting in deep "blood" reds. I use bloodstone from many places, but one of my favorites is Australian (pictured to the left). It is typically a rich blue-green, sometimes can be milky and paler, and is more translucent than opaque. The deep red flakes or spots add depth to this stone. Bloodstone is an excellent grounding stone and can bring you more in touch with your body and physical senses. If you are looking for your life's work or know what that may be but lack the courage to go forward, bloodstone is an excellent choice. |
BRONZITE
The stone of decision. Like Angelite, Bronzite is a new stone for me. I recently came across it and it is gorgeous! it really does look like an artifact from the Bronze Age. And not surprisingly, it's a very grounding and masculine stone. If you have trouble making decisions or choosing between options, this stone can help. It can clear confusion by making the unimportant options very clear. The best thing about Bronzite, is that it can bring with it the courage to not only see the clear choice, but to make it and follow through.

CARNELIAN
The stone of vitality. There are two types of carnelian and it's one of my absolute favorites! I use it as a focal stone and as an accent. Orange Carnelian (the middle stone to left) is a very feminine stone and can provide emotional support for things unique to women. One of the best features of carnelian is that it can increase appreciation of the body. For someone with body dysmorphia, bulimia or anorexia, this stone can support a better self image. And on top of all of that, it is a very sensual stone. It can promote more sacred sexual experiences and elevate moods. Poppy Carnelian (the top stone on the left) is slightly more peach or pink than orange carnelian and it is all about family, particularly the mother-child relationship. It can ease fears related to parenting so is a great stone for new parents. |
CHRYSOPRASE
The blooming stone. I use chrysoprase a lot in my designs. It's a stone that I am particularly drawn to. There are two types: green and lemon. Chrysoprase can soothe the heart, especially one that has experienced a lot of heartbreak and one that struggles with loneliness. This stone can promote more balanced emotions and help you to stay calm when there's conflict. It can also give the wearer a sense of courage or inner strength. Old traumas, from childhood or past lives, can be healed with this stone. It even serves as an aid to grief. To me, this stone is the inanimate equivalent of a dog because it can replace heartache with unconditional love. Collection of the Artist |
CITRINE
The stone of success. Most citrine is actually amethyst which is heated to change the color. Normally, heating stones reduces the energy of a stone, but this is one of the exceptions to this rule. The heating process and drastic change in color make this a process of alchemy rather than manipulation. Most of the citrine you'll find will be heated in this way. Citrine can help astral travelers and increase the understanding of incoming psychic information. If you have deepened intuition, but don't always understand what you might be getting, citrine can help you clarify. Citrine can help with digestive issues and stimulate energy. Natural citrine is more rare and again, another powerful stone. It can cleanse and detoxify your emotions. Natural citrine can also move Ch'i around the body. If you're familiar with Ch'i, you know that in Chinese medicine, Ch'i is our life force. When it's stagnant, it can result in disease and low energy. The natural stone is also powerful for the etheric body which includes the aura. This stone may also be called yellow quartz or yellow quartz crystal. |
CORAL
There are several types of coral and I use it very sparingly. I try to make sure that the coral I'm using is harvested in a responsible way. There are many types of coral, but I use natural, red Pacific and pink coral. Coral is said to help with healing bone breaks or bone diseases. And, depending on the type, can aid in fertility or conception, with childbirth or with issues of the womb. Some Polynesian elders believe that coral can even help new babies settle into their bodies. I believe that coral is particularly helpful with issues that relate to the womb because of the elemental and emotional nature of the ocean.

EMERALD (INDIAN)
The stone of luck and beauty. Raw emeralds are a beautiful milky green and is just lovely. Emerald is the birthstone of May (my birth month), so this is probably why I have an affinity for it. Emerald is great for dispelling negativity - not only that, it can actually transmute negative energy into something positive. Emerald is particularly helpful in transitions whether they're emotional or life-stage related. Mid-life crisis? You may need an emerald piece! Collection of the Artist |
FLUORITE
The stone of insight. Fluorite comes in many colors, clear (vision), green (heart), pink (heart), purple (crown chakra), raspberry (root chakra), yellow (solar plexus chakra) - or a combination of those colors. Fluorite is truly the stone of emotional healing, clearing and grounding. I love this stone! Its color, fractures and natural jewel qualities can be a bit mesmerizing. Purple fluorite can connect you to the spiritual realm. I believe this stone is particularly useful in enhancing psychic gifts like manifestation, clairsentience, clairaudience, clairvoyance and empathy. It is also useful in animal communication. |
FOSSIL
The stone of endurance. Fossils have an amazing ability to ground us and connect us with the ancient world. Fossils are essentially record keepers for the earth. They're filled with the wisdom of the planet. Connect with the origins of your soul and the Akashic record by wearing fossils. Can also build endurance. |
GARNET
The stone of passion. Garnet is such a versatile stone. There are several types and they are referred to by different geological names. I refer to them by color. I typically use raspberry or red garnet. Red garnet can be a deep reddish brown and is most often referred to as Pyrope Garnet (pictured to the left). It is a very warm stone and can ground us and draw the earth's energy into our being. Garnet stimulates the life force of the wearer and is also good for healthy sexuality and fertility. I often use this stone in Love charms to help draw a physically compatible partner. In addition, it can promote a monogamous and stable marriage, Rasberry garnet is particularly good for women and women's health. It can repel negativity. Raspberry garnet can also be called Almandine Garnet. |
HEMATITE
The stone of balance. Hematite is an amazing stone. It has weight and in that weight it grounds and stabilizes your existence on this plane. It can heal the inner warrior and dispel anger and rage. This is a particularly good stone for courage when the courage that is needed is due to conflict or challenge. Magnetic Hematite is slightly different. It promotes grounding in a different way, by healing with the polarities. It is important to note that magnetic hematite is not found naturally. It is pressed from grounds or chips of natural hematite, then magnetized. This process doesn't weaken or enhance the stone. Middle stone of the dangle, pictured here, is hematite. |
HERKIMER DIAMOND
The stone of light. Herkimer diamonds are so beautiful. They are not a true diamond, but instead a crystal clear quartz with some black inclusions. They truly sparkle. They are double terminated and can be small or large. Herkimers are found in New York state. Talk about packing a power punch, these stones contain the energy of pure love and light. They can spawn a slow and gentle transformation process that lasts a lifetime. They are wonderful for a little "polish", both in jewelry design and in healing because they can expand awareness and positivity. And if that's not enough, they can help to draw soul mates and soul friends. |
HOWLITE
The stone of quiet vision. Howlite can aid in revealing the truth. It is a very earthy stone that is often dyed to mimic Turquoise and other stones, but it is not Turquoise. The dying process of this stone removes any metaphysical power the stone may have, but dyed, it can be beautiful. I use Howlite a lot and prefer the undyed version, but will occasionally use a dyed howlite in place of Turquoise. Turquoise is increasingly more rare and good turquoise is quite expensive. Although I love Turquoise, I use it sparingly to help reduce the demand. |
IOLITE
The stone of growth. Iolite is also called the water sapphire. It is a transparent navy blue. I use iolite in place of sapphire because it is more economical, but beautiful in its own right. Iolite encourages curiosity and growth, so it is a great stone for students both academic and student's of the world. If you have psychic gifts, iolite can enhance those gifts with baby steps.

JASPER
The stone of protection. There are so very many jaspers, I couldn't write on them all. I use several kinds and the one pictured to the left is Red Creek Jasper. They are an incredible stone and take a high polish or matte finish very well. I get lost in jaspers because they are so different and so amazing. They all have different strengths in the area of energy, but they are all very earthy stones which means most are very grounding. Some of the jaspers you will see in my collections include: Picture Jasper, Red Creek Jasper, Mystery Jasper, Wood Jasper, Serpentine Jasper, Dalmation Jasper, Ocean Jasper, Rainforest Jasper and Silverleaf Jasper. |
LABRADORITE
The stone of magic. There are several types of labradorite; blue, grey, golden and white. What we typically know as moonstone (white moonstone) is really white labradorite. But I will talk about that under Moonstone, below. Labradorite is excellent for psychic awareness. All of the labradorites look very "cosmic" to me (a little like the milky way) and so it's not surprising that it is said to help communication with extraterrestrials. It is a powerful healer and can provide a shield against negativity. Labradorite can also protect against negativity, psychic attacks and negative or darker energies. It makes a great pendulum stone and can increase the accuracy of divination, |
LAPIS LAZULI
The stone of inner power. Lapis is an amazing stone and has been cultivated and used in jewelry by humans for centuries. It was a popular stone in Ancient Egypt. You'll find it in their jewelry and idols. Lapis is instrumental in cleansing the mind. This stone dives deep into the being and can unravel messy thoughts and worn patterns of thinking. It is an excellent stone if you or someone you love is consistently making flawed choices. This stone is quite powerful which means it could be overwhelming to people who are extra sensitive, but it can be softened with other stones like amethyst. |
LARIMAR
The stone of openness. Larimar is a fairly new stone to me. It's quite expensive but very beautiful. It comes from a single mine in the Dominican Republic and may also be called Pectolite or Dolphin Stone. This stone can promote open and honest communication between soul mates. Larimar can be calming which makes it great for anxiety or worry.

MOONSTONE
The stone of the tides. Moonstone, like labradorite, is a very diverse stone. It can be found in many configurations including: blue, grey, peach, rainbow and white. Typically, I use peach, rainbow (white labradorite) or white and I will indicate in the description which is being used. Peach Moonstone: This subtle and beautiful stone can heal the heart in many ways. Its gentle color and aura open the heart for divine intervention. Over time, moonstone can gently clear anything that has scarred the heart, healing the trauma the hardens one's ability to love and trust. This is a stone that I should wear more, considering that it can also ease our own self-criticism. Particularly helpful for adult children of alcoholics (ACOAs). Rainbow Moonstone is quite powerful yet very fragile. Rainbow moonstone is very useful for psychics and light workers. It can be used as a shield or to enhance your gifts in these areas. |
OPAL
The stone of earth. I use both Peruvian (aka Andean) and green opals. Peruvian opals are a soft milky blue and have subtle healing properties. This stone encourages compassion for the environment and earth. Opal can actually shift trauma on a deep level. This stone can help through grief and loss. Inner growth is almost inevitable with this stone and if you are working through past hurts or trying to change behavior, this is a great stone. If you or someone in your life is an eco warrior or earth mother, a piece with Peruvian is the perfect gift.
Green opal is an amazing stone of beautiful colors and depth. It is the stone of rejuvenation. This stone can help you see meaning and beauty in everyday life. Like Peruvian opal, green opal will bring you closer to the earth in a very spiritual way.

ORANGE CALCITE
The stone of healing. When I first picked up a pieces of orange calcite, I felt immediately soothed and calm. It's a beautiful stone and I typically use it in my chrysalis pieces. The symbolism of the chrysalis and the healing power of this stone are the perfect combination. Orange calcite has the ability to heal old or deep traumas including many types of abuse. It is not a substitute for mental health care or counseling, but I believe it can help. My chrysalis pieces are made in the spirit of rebirth and remaking oneself which is why they are a powerful combination. The interesting thing about abuse, particularly sexual abuse is that the trauma is usually held or carried in the stomach. Many abuse survivors have issues with food, even digestion. By releasing this trauma, those issues can be lessened and lifted. |
PERIDOT
The stone of clear mind. Peridot used to be called Olivine and is the birthstone of August. When cut properly, this stone sparkles like no other. If you are going through a process that requires emotional release and healing, this is an amazing stone to help you through it. Peridot can regulate this process. It's useful during difficult times like divorces, breakups or grief. It can also enhance prosperity by increasing abundance. This stone fosters security as well. Peridot can detox the body from allergens or harmful substances as it supports the liver, kidneys, bladder and gall bladder. |
PIETERSITE
The tempest stone. I typically use black and red. Pietersite is called the tempest stone for a reason. When you look into it, it feels like a storm of molten lava! This stone repels negative forces and can bring the spirit back into the body when you feel disconnected. If someone is feeling alienated from the divine, pietersite can help with that as well. All types of pietersite bring nourishment from the the very core of the earth. And finally, it can promote grounding, the will to live and the will to achieve. Middle stone of the dangle, large rectangle. |
PREHNITE
The stone of serenity. Prehnite is a beautiful stone and can be a range of soft yellows to greens. It is an excellent stone to heal grief, in fact, it's one of the best. Holding or wearing prehnite can provide almost instant relief, it is abundantly soothing. It can also connect you with the angelic realm and provide support for high blood pressure. |
PYRITE
The stone of vision. Pyrite is another stone that conjures visions of the ancient world, like bronzite and Lapis Lazuli. It fosters assimilation and manifesting. This is a good stone for people who are good at manifesting because it sort of regulates that energy so that it can be better focused. Pyrite can aid in prosperity and be particularly useful when feeling stressed or scattered.

QUARTZ
The stone of alignment. Clear quartz aligns the spiritual and emotional bodies which is a powerful combination. It also protects from negativity and intensifies spiritual awareness and learning. These stones are all about light. Crystals can cleanse the aura and align the chakras! Crystals are a great gift for you or someone you know who is a light worker. Be aware that there are many types of quartz colors, some dyed and some natural. |
RUBY
The stone of energy. Rubies are truly beautiful in their less polished state as pictured to the left. They can vary in color and are an energizing stone. Rubies intensify the life force and energize the blood. Which means if you're suffering from fatigue or weakness or even low-iron, they may help. |
SHIVA LINGAM STONE
The stone of union. This is another new stone for me. It's really intriguing and when you see it, you'll see why. This stone can promote grounding and the union of yin and yang, masculine and feminine, body and soul. This stone is all about duality. It can help in sexual healing for both men and women and if you are a couple, it can help to strengthen the sexual bond.

SUNSTONE
The stone of hope. Sunstone is fairly hard to find, but it is really beautiful. Looking close at sunstone reveals an interior of natural glitter much like you'd see floating in a snow globe. Sunstone can clear blockages, particularly those keeping you from reaching your life's purpose. It also promotes courage and more importantly hope. And finally, through amplifying hope, sunstone can heal fear. |
TOURMALINE
The stone of transmutation. Tourmaline is amazing with a capital AMAZING! I love this stone. It offers a wide variety of colors and properties: Black, Blue, Colorless, Green, Pink, Violet, Watermelon.
Black tourmaline can protect the aura and connect you to the earth. If you have a lot of negativity in your life, carry or wear a piece of black tourmaline for sure! Some say it can even guard against spirit possessions. Tourmaline is good at dispelling fear and panic and may help with panic attacks.
Green tourmaline is really beautiful and ranges in color from a lime to an aqua. It can purge and release negative emotions and help with present-life traumas such as abuse or shock. Green tourmaline can also be called Verdelite. It is the most common of tourmalines.
Pink tourmaline is gorgeous and a little more rare. It heals the emotions and can renew purpose. This stone is great for balancing energy flow or Ch'i within the body and can raise consciousness. Pink tourmaline can transmute negativity into universal love!

TREE AGATE
The forest stone. This is a really lovely stone. milky to clear with what appears to be real moss suspended in time. The moss is actually nickel or copper deposits in the rock itself, but the effect is stunning. Not surprisingly, the stone can enhance telepathic communication and clairsentience with nature, both plants and animals. If you feel yourself drawn to trees, the forest or mountains... even gardening or just being outside, this might be a strong stone for you. It can enhance your gardening intuition and increase your connection with nature overall. If you know an eco-activist and need a gift, this is what you need! It can sometimes be referred to as a moss agate, but is slightly different. |
TURQUOISE
The stone of connection. If I could recommend any stone to adult children of alcoholics/addicts or abuse and neglect survivors, it would be turquoise. Real turquoise is difficult to find and it comes at a premium. Blue and green turquoise are amazing healing stones. Some of the qualities include:
Native Americans often call blue Turquoise the "sky stone" because it connects the upper and the lower and you will often see both paired with the phrase, "as Above so Below". Beware of inexpensive stones labeled as turquoise! Generally, they are dyed howlite or Chinese or African turquoise. Chinese and African turquoise are not true turquoise, although they are beautiful stones and I do use them, but they are properly labeled. Dyed howlite and magnesite are also often substituted in cheaper jewelry, but it's actually illegal to refer to them as genuine Turquoise. So remember, if you located turquoise jewelry and it's pretty inexpensive, it's probably not genuine. |
